- There can be several versions of a trailer for one film.
- There are usually two trailers, one teaser and one that comes out later that gives more information about the film.
- The teaser trailers come earlier within the distribution process and only shows few exciting details.
These are the film Trailer conventions that our group need to consider.
- Trailers include key moments from the film with are not places in the sequence of the film, and do not give away any crucial parts, as some get criticised for displaying to much information.
- The title of the trailer never gets put on the film until the end, following by the realise date.
- Names of the main stars are usually put at the beginning of the trailers, this is important as the audience may want to see the film because of a certain popular star, and it gives them more information about the cast.
Film trailer analysis.
Saw 1 trailer
- Voice over of the main character (jigsaw) to enhance his dominance of the film, and the vocals show the audience that the film is a horror and displays the main line of the film.
- Various fast paced shots of newspaper articles, about this "mysterious" killer to enhance bits of the storyline.
- There is white text on the black smokey background, to enhance the genre of the film it also fades out to make the trailer freaky.
- There is another voice over explaining the murder, during there are clips of the film fading to black.
- There is no music, just sound effects like wind create a creepy effect to the audience.
- The title appears at the end in a large font but is the same text as the other titles, this then fades into a black.
- The trailer ends with text saying "This fall" this shows that this is a teaser trailer as it doesn't have a certain date.
The trailer of 'Safe Haven' starts with the green film ratings sign. Rejecting the typical conventions of a trailer the film title shows at the beginning of the trailer, with the text incorporated into an establishing shot. While the title is on there is a sound effect of bird this connects with the title as birds are calm and make you feel safe. After the title shows there is a short clip of the production company which is, Relatively media. After this a variety of fast paced shot showing a man looking for a woman, the starting shot was a low upside down shot of the woman running away, this symbolises her upside down world. Running along side these shots is a sound effect of sirens connoting she Is on the run. After There is a variety of long paces shots with a calming, well known song, not only does the song represent where she is going is calm but as it is a well known popular song it shows this is a high budget movie. Next the titles begin to show up of a water background with dark blue font, some of the text consisted of 'Director, Nicholas sparks.' and 'Bestselling author of the notebook and dear john.' tis shows the audience that this is going to be similar to these films. and makes the movie genre really clear, which is romance. Next the trailer introduces the main characters this is typical for a romantic movie trailer, afterward the clips and dialogue show the protagonists budding love towards each other, which I believe is very cute and I would like to see this movie. Suddenly there are flashbacks, that shows a tragedy that happened in her past, this makes the storyline even more exciting and three dimensional. Then there are titles introducing the storyline, intriguing the audience to want more. Towards the end of the trailer the shots become faster while the song becomes faster as well, this climbs towards the climax of the trailer and exciting clips of the film. The title then appears again, this is strange as many trailer do not have the title twice, but I believe this is a good idea as it inserts the title in the audiences mind. After the trailer tells you when it's coming out in the cinema and then the text fades into multiple shots of the billing board.
warm bodies trailer
This trailer starts again with the green ratings sign a typical trailer convention. It then starts with a voice over of the protagonist speaking about his life, saying he is dead (zombie) the voice over shows the movies genre which is comedy. to accompany this voice over there are shots of him walking around with over zombies etc. There is cheerful music which is contrasting to the thought of horror when it comes to zombies. After this the production logo faces in which is 'summit entertainment.' The trailer shows a lot of funny clips again showing the movie genre and making the audience want to go and see the movie as it looks easy to watch. After this the trailer introduces the antagonists called 'bonies (more zombie people)' This trailer shows a lot of the storyline as most comic movies do. As the trailer moves towards the end the music gets faster and more aggressive, with fast paces shots showing the climax of the film and trailer. The titles are red black and white, this symbolises death, love, and purity. The font if extremely bold, some of the titles consists of 'this February' 'love makes us human' showing the main storyline of the trailer and when the movie will be out in cinemas. Then the trailer fades into the title which is the same font as the other titles. The title then fades into a clip that is funny, to again show the audience what the genre is and again the trailer tells us when the film will be released. There is no billing board which defies the usual conventions of movie trailers but social networking sites do appear such as Facebook and twitter this shows that this movie is generated for a younger audience .
Paranormal activity trailer
At the start of this movie trailer there is no green ratings sign which is very strange, and it do not think it is effective. The trailer begins with a tracking shot of people queuing up to see the movie, there is text within this shot saying, 'In September 2009, a screening was held in Hollywood California. ' It then cuts to people getting into their seats at a cinema with text on the shot saying, 'This audience was among the first to experience the movie, Paranormal activity. This is what they saw.' the trailer then cuts to the production company of paramount within a cinema screen. After the trailer keeps swapping back a forth to clips of the film and the reaction of the audience. When there is scary clips the audience reactions are jumpy and shaky etc. This connotes to the audience of the trailer that this movie is really scary. During this text fades in and out with different movie reviews saying how terrifying the movie is. During the climax of this trailer there is broken fuzzy TV effects and fast paces music to amplify the horror. After there is white text that says ' experience it for yourself' this makes the audience want to have the same experience at the people in the cinema in the trailer and will make them want to see the movie. After the title appears which is a typical convection of all trailers. What I found really strange in this trailer is instead of a billing board the had text saying ' opening in certain cities' and listed certain cities within America, this shows me that this may have been a low budget film, but as its now come to England as people enjoyed it and the movie company must of had more profit.
